The level grid
1/5 Let's face it, you were pretty sedentary not long ago, but now you'd like to try trail running, just out of curiosity. Well done! Running for 30 minutes straight is still a challenge, so whether you're hiking or trail running doesn't really matter. For you, 10km and 500m of elevation gain is already quite something, and you love it! 2/5 You're starting to feel comfortable on the trails and now you're thinking about lengthening your runs. You're running more and more regularly, often for 2 hours straight in the great outdoors, and tackling 1000m of elevation gain and 20km from time to time doesn't scare you. 3/5 That's it, you're hooked on endurance sports! You're out running 4 times a week; you could say it's become your daily routine. So much so that running a marathon in under 3 hours 30 minutes is within your reach, and on a short trail run, you don't just want to finish, you want to lower your time. A long trail run could be an achievable goal for you. 4/5 We can say that you already have considerable experience, with a few setbacks or injuries that have made you stronger. Improving your training is important to you, and you're doing what it takes. You could consider (or perhaps you already are) running an ultra from time to time. Looking more closely, you regularly put in more than 10 hours of training per week. 5/5 Distance clearly doesn't impress you, unless it's climbing a vertical kilometer at full speed! You never look at the time limits for your races because they don't concern you; beyond finishing, your goal is to do it in the shortest possible time. But maybe you're not interested in races, what excites you is spending hours outside, and in the end that gives you a significant amount of training.
