What does this training day consist of ?
The first part of the morning is spent over coffee to define together the hike we are going to do.
-> The goal is to IMMERSE YOU in the decision-making processes that occur throughout the process of a mountain outing: Before the hike, at the start and throughout the entire progression.
We will ask ourselves, in particular, before departure:
-
Where to go and why?
-
How much time should I allow?
-
Is it easy to find your way around?
-
Is the terrain technical?
-
What to take and why?
-
What are the potential risks?
-
Tips for taking accurate weather forecasts
-
Etc...
Finally, we will go on the planned hike together and validate or invalidate the choices made beforehand.
Of course, the goal is to justify our choices in order to gain experience and confidence.
Throughout the hike, and if the participant(s) wish, we will use both the map and GPS alternately to find our way.
This intensive one-day training course provides trainees with the basics on the following points:
-
How to read an IGN map.
-
How to choose your route.
-
Understanding the risks in the mountains according to the “probability X consequence” model.
-
How to alert the emergency services.
-
Knowing how to react in the event of a storm.
-
Choosing your equipment without compromising on bulk and safety.
-
What to put in your backpack.
-
The right questions to ask yourself.
-
...
How to use a GPS.
The aim of this day is to give participants the basic skills they need to enjoy their own mountain adventures with maximum comfort, pleasure, and safety.
This means identifying risks, but above all having enough self-confidence to recognize when “everything is fine” and make the most of their immersion in nature.
