There are plenty of reasons to participate in a trail running course, whether you're a beginner or an expert. Furthermore, Chamonix, world-renowned in the world of mountain running and outdoor sports in general, is undoubtedly the ideal spot to immerse yourself in "trail running culture" and soak up the breathtaking scenery of Mont Blanc.

Trail runners facing Mont Blanc

Having once been a tourist at the foot of Mont Blanc myself, I still perfectly remember the wonder I felt contemplating the high mountain.

Today, after 10 years of traversing this mountain range daily, I am constantly reminded of how lucky I am.

The participants in the trips I lead reflect back to me that sense of wonder that has never left me. But when it also involves sharing the joy of running in the mountains and giving them all the tools to thrive in this sport that gives me so much, then I know that I probably have the best job in the world.

Here are the best reasons to participate in a trail running course in Chamonix:

First good reason: Because there's more to life than just trail running.

Trail running is a sport that attracts beginners to competition, but not only them. Yet the proportion of "competitors" is quite small. The reason for the massive participation of runners in organized races is simple: Runners want to discover new trails, experience an adventure, and share it.

And you know what? It can be done without a race bib! Better yet, participating in a trail running course will allow you to take the time to explore in contemplation, without the stress of racing.

Second good reason: To progress quickly

One of the best reasons to do a trail running course is to benefit from the many personalized tips of a professional.

These tips can cover various topics:

  • Downhill technique

  • Understanding the climbs

  • The running technique

  • Training planning

  • Avoid injuries

  • Food

  • The equipment

  • Knowing how to use your poles

  • The mind

  • Gaining autonomy in the mountains

  • Muscle strengthening

  • The recovery

  • ...

Enough to gain years of experience in just a few days!

Third good reason: Because of Chamonix

Runners all over the world know that Chamonix is the Mecca of trail running.

The UTMB, the Mont-Blanc Marathon, or even Kilian Jornet have largely contributed to making Chamonix so famous in the world of trail running.

And if such events exist, or if the best trail runners in the world come to train at the foot of Mont Blanc, it is for factual reasons:

The elevation gain is significant and the scenery is exceptional. So much so that it's never difficult to find the motivation to lace up your running shoes and go for a run in the mountains for several hours.

Fourth good reason: To be guided by a local expert

And it's much more than just not having to manage your route.

A trail running course offers the expertise of a certified local guide. This means the route will be tailored to the physical AND technical abilities of the participants. And above all, it guarantees the discovery of the best spots, the best trails, the best viewpoints. The most famous, of course, but especially the most secluded. Those places where the crowds don't dare to go, some trails that don't even appear on maps.

And all of this depends on the conditions at the time, because in the end it is the mountain that decides its accessibility.

Fifth good reason: A trail running training camp in Chamonix means getting in a lot of mountain running.

Spending a trail running weekend in the mountains is what is called in training jargon "doing volume".

It's the most effective way to progress quickly. And for those who don't have the good fortune to live in the mountains, it's also the best way to prepare for the specific challenges of mountain racing: elevation gain, technical difficulty, altitude, distance… In short: a trail running training camp is PERFECT for preparing for and achieving your goal!

Sixth good reason: To connect with other passionate runners

One of the keys to a project's success is growing alongside others who share the same passion and goals. A trail running camp is about meeting other runners. It's about sharing experiences to progress together.

Seventh good reason: To challenge oneself

One of the most common reasons participants choose trail running camps is to challenge themselves in a safe environment. Together, we can support each other and share the best moments. You might be surprised by the kilometers and elevation gain you're capable of covering during a trail running trip!

I particularly remember Nico, whose goal was to complete a Vertical Kilometer (1000m elevation gain) in under an hour. I accompanied him throughout his challenge, and just when he'd given up hope, he finished in 59 minutes and a few seconds. Shared joy!

So, ready to give it a try?
